How to improve sustainability in global value chains (GVCs) is a key question that has been intensively addressed not only in coordinated multinational efforts like G20 but also by national policy engagement like Germany’s Supply Chain Law. Many firms and actors have been involved in GVCs to produce goods and services for the world demand. They have been responsible for specific tasks along the GVCs. In October Finn Ole Semrau started his work as a PhD researcher at the Kiel Centre for Globalization. He obtained his master’s degree in Economics at the Christian-Albrechts University of Kiel. During his studies he worked for the Kiel Institute for the World Economy as a student assistant and gained international research experience with a research stay at the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro.
