The Kiel Institute for the World Economy, one of the scientific partners of KCG, organised an academic workshop with the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) in cooperation with the Global Solutions Initiative on April 16, 2019 in Kiel Germany. Under the overarching theme “Global Challenges and Global Solutions”, more than 40 scholars, including a 20-person CASS-Delegation, joined the workshop and discussed about potential global solutions for global challenges particularly related to technological development, international trade and investment as well as global governance.

Following the opening speeches of Prof. Gabriel Felbermayr, Ph.D. (IfW President) and Prof. XIE Fuzhan (CASS President), twelve presentations on topics like Germany’s new industrial policy, China’s 5G policy, the Belt and Road Initiative, the Sino-US trade relations and the WTO reform, multilateral financial system and refugee protection etc. were made. KCG Researcher, Cecília Hornok, Ph.D., also gave a presentation “Foreign Capital and Firm Performance: German Investors in France” based on a recent report to the German Federal Ministry of Finance, in which KCG was involved.

KCG Researchers, Nils C. Hoffmann, Dr. Wan-Hsin Liu, Finn Ole Semrau and Frauke Steglich, participated in the workshop as well. Liu also moderated and coordinated the workshop.
