Professor Horst Raff and his co-authors have recently finished two working papers. Both papers examine, with the help of microeconomic models, some important aspects of inventory management within supply chains.

The first paper “Centralized versus Decentralized Inventory Control in Supply Chains and the Bullwhip Effect”, co-authored with Zhan Qu from the Technical University Dresden, looks at how demand volatility is passed upstream through the value chain. The volume of international trade declined dramatically during the global financial crisis of 2008-09. Since then several explanations have been proposed for this sudden trade collapse. These include a fall in global demand, reviving trade protectionism, a domino effect created by global value chains, and the restriction in external finance for firms. We are happy to announce that Prof. Dr. Johannes Brinkmann has recently joined the KCG as an External Research Fellow. Prof. Brinkmann is a professor of Business Ethics at the Department of Strategy and Entrepreneurship of the BI Norwegian Business School and adjunct professor at the Arctic University of Norway in Tromsø.
