Guli-Sanam Karimova Joined the KCG

Guli-Sanam Karimova joined the Kiel Centre for Globalization in December 2016 as a PhD researcher. She completed her Bachelor studies in Economics at the National University of Uzbekistan in Tashkent. She then studied for a Master's degree in Economics with a focus on business studies and particularly marketing and information management at the University of Kassel. After obtaining her Master’s degree in Economics she got her second Master’s degree in Philosophy. During her Master's studies, she worked as a student assistant at the Institute for Corporate Ethics and Economics at the University of Kassel.[…]

KCG Studies about Standards along the Global Supply Chains

A new KCG study (Görg et al., forthcoming) addressing multinational enterprises (MNEs) with production sites in Africa shows that MNEs are indeed able to influence the working and production conditions of their suppliers in Africa, if the MNEs are motivated to do so. For example, production conditions of MNEs are found to be established in a more sustainable way in Africa, if their products were exported to developed countries such as to Europe or the USA, compared to having been exported to less developed countries like China[…]

With the official start of the Kiel Centre for Globalisation (KCG), the Kieler Nachrichten (KN) recently published a report on the research focus and the planned activities of the KCG based on an interview with Prof. Holger Görg. As emphasised by Prof. Görg, over the past decades of globalisation some people have won but others have lost and there have been some undesirable side effects. Finn Ole Semrau Joined the KCG

In October Finn Ole Semrau started his work as a PhD researcher at the Kiel Centre for Globalization. He obtained his master’s degree in Economics at the Christian-Albrechts University of Kiel. During his studies he worked for the Kiel Institute for the World Economy as a student assistant and gained international research experience with a research stay at the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro. Thilo Kroeger joined the Kiel Centre for Globalization in October 2016 as PhD Researcher. Previously, he obtained a double Master’s degree in Economics from the University of Mannheim and Stockholm University specialising in Industrial Organization, particularly Competition Economics, and International Economics. Having completed his Bachelor studies at Kiel University with a stay abroad at the University of Glasgow he returned in fall 2016 to participate in the doctoral programme Quantitative Economics.[…]
