Aoife Hanley Moderated Africa’s Fintech Panel at the Kiel-CEPR African Conference

International African experts, policymakers, business professionals and representatives of NGOs came together at the second KIEL-CEPR African Economic Development Conference (AEDC) “Understanding the Shifting Landscape of African Economic Development” held on November 13 and 14, 2025 in Berlin. During the conference, participants discussed a wide range of topics related to African economic development, including education, state capacity, aid, finance, natural resources and climate, among others.

Prof. Aoife Hanley, Ph.D. (KCG Fellow) organized and moderated the concluding panel “Africa’s Fintech – New Pathways for Funding, Credit and Trade” at the conference. At the panel Prof. Dr. Charles Ackah (KCG External Fellow and University of Ghana), Amadou Cisse (African Union), Dr. Michael Kodom (University of Ghana), Cutie Mireku (MTN Ghana) and Fridah Kibuko (German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) in Kenya) discussed channels through which mobile money could benefit particularly small or medium local businesses and foster trade.

The conference was co-organized by the Kiel Institute and the CEPR.
